Australian bosses are not helping displaced workers enough according to career networking site, LinkMe.com.au and with mass layoffs, downsizing and business closures reaching unprecedented levels, the situation has become dire.
Mr Campbell Sallabank, CEO of LinkMe.com.au says many companies do not consider outplacement services where workers are assisted in career transition and given the skills to get a new job because they think the costs are prohibitive. In belt-tightening environments, outplacement services are typically reserved for senior executives and are viewed as a luxury.
"Outplacement is an ethical and moral way of assisting staff especially when they have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. It ought to be an integral part of change management and should be available to people across all levels of the organisation from the boss to the tea lady.
With planned career transition support a growing and pressing need for more and more people and for business managing change, LinkMe.com.au today announced the launch of their first customized online career portal in partnership with Crossroads Human Resources.
The web-based career transition and outplacement service developed and customized for Crossroads, leverages LinkMe's easy-to-use job search and networking functions, 200,000 strong network of job hunters and thousands of recruiters and employers, and all under the Cross Roads Human Resources banner.
"It’s a one-stop career transition environment enabling business to help displaced employees accelerate their job search strategy," said Crossroads HR Director, Karl Burns.
"When employees are faced with a sudden change in employment, whether it is anticipated or completed unsuspected, they will feel stressed, angry and not in control of their lives. We know too that employers often have genuine interest in helping terminated workers get back into the workforce as soon as possible," he said.
"Business can match the people they let go to nominated employers and to LinkMe’s vast network of recruiters and employers. In turn candidates gain access to the hidden job market, increase the chance to be headhunted and gain greater control over their career during a time when job displacement can provoke serious anxiety."
"With planned outplacement, employers can offer their people the best exit possible, in turn job hunters get a shot of confidence knowing their now former employer is still on their side."
